No one really understood my dreams until I met Jesse. I wanted more than the predictable lives of my friends and family. 5 years later, a research position with National Geographic and a tour around the world, I wouldn’t trade my trip, the experiences, the friendships, the accomplishments or what I learned about myself for anything!!!!

Not long after I met Jesse and started putting together a plan, I lost my father to cancer. Years before, I also had cancer, however I was the lucky one, I survived. Though all of the bad times, Jesse was always just a phone call away. Speaking with him always made life seem manageable, even when I felt like I couldn’t possibly handle another day of overwhelming sadness and stress.
Finally, things started to look up for me and with support; I ended my relationships with my non-supportive friends and found a great job. One day, I got a call; my boss offered me a once in a lifetime opportunity to go do research in Mongolia, for National Geographic!
I called Jesse and he encouraged me to “Go for it!” (Keep in mind at this point I had never been out of the U.S.) He walked me through the whole process, helped me raise money and worked with me on the phone for hours, when I doubted myself.
The day came and I boarded the plane, it was finally happening! I got to Mongolia by myself, had one of the most amazing months of my life and then continued on my adventure through South East Asia. I went to places in Mongolia only a handful of Westerners will ever see, lived in a tree house and took a road trip on a motor scooter through Northern Thailand.
The defining moment of my experience occurred when I was invited to join a trekking group in Nepal. I was afraid that my physical limitations from cancer would slow the group down. I was really scared. Again, I called Jesse, he challenged me to “go big” and do the trek. After 18 days, 150 miles and a 17,700ft mountain pass, I was the only female who completed the entire trek! Ha, take that cancer!!!! This was without a doubt one of the biggest personal triumphs of my life.
Looking back at my experience, I am confident that without his guidance and support, I probably would have been too scared to do anything more than my original plan of a short vacation to New Zealand. I wouldn’t trade my trip, the experiences, the friendships, the accomplishments or what I learned about myself for anything!!!! He not only helped me keep my dreams alive through the most difficult years of my life, but he helped make them a reality when the time was right.
My recommendation, just keep his number in your pocket and call him when ever you need some inspiration, or a little fire under your feet, no matter where you are in your life.
Thanks Jesse,
Katie Webb
